I woke up at 4am this morning to the sound of retching.
Only to wake up on Boxing Day to the sounds of Alex throwing up Christmas dinner.
Enough of the gross details. Alex was sick all day. He stayed in bed and couldn’t keep anything down. Perhaps I jinxed him with all my talk of gratitude. Sorry, poor thing.
We nursed him back to health with tiny sips of Gatorade after the acute phase was over. Thanks to Dr Kemper on call who gave me excellent advice since Vaden was closed for the day and we’re still in Sacramento.
After the nausea passed, Alex had a fever to look forward to.
Luckily, he appears to have recovered significantly, enough to drink the chicken broth his mum made.
Takeaway For Today
Don’t take good health for granted. One day you can be in a healthy state and the next day you can’t move without nausea.
Being optimistic helps. I was on the verge of taking him to urgent care. The only reason we didn’t go was that he said he couldn’t handle a car ride.
Now he could be back to normal as early as tomorrow morning. That means he might still be able to go snow camping this year. I’m rooting for you, Alex !!!
Optimism does wonders.
